We all can do a little bit more for the world we live in : Mellissah Smith
Today, after a few emails backwards and forwards, I connected with an old childhood friend, Sonya Gough.
We instantly connected and were able to share our inner most thoughts and aspirations. She has just finished University having studied psychology, and is currently looking for an internship. As she shared her journey and her experiences growing up, I realised just how much we miss in people's lives around us. This happy go lucky girl who always had a smile on her face, had challenges that I never knew existed.
What strikes me about Sonya is just how positive she is about life, living and making a difference to the world we live in.
When she shared that she reads my blogs and is inspired by them, I was quietly chuffed. To be honest, I am just happy that someone reads my blogs, and that it may at times resonates with the people that I connect with.
My blogs have always been about my personal journey as an entrepreneur, business woman and person navigating life. From the outset I understand that for most my life must seem quite exciting. When I reflect after talking to someone who has taken the time to read about my journey, I often find myself realising that I don't appreciate enough the opportunities I have been given.
Backed by a great family and caring friends, I have been able to achieve a lot more out of life than I ever imagined. Yes I have worked hard, and any obstacle that has fallen in my way, has always been something that I have believed I could overcome. As the years in business progress, I become more accomplished at working through issues and forging my way to finish the business plan I started. I am more confident and I hide less behind my shyness than I do in my everyday life because that is the gift business has given me.
Talking to Sonya has made me reflect in a way that I haven't done so before. Here we have an amazing woman, an inspiration to all, that spends her down time counselling people through the Lifeline help line, and offering help to anyone else that needs it. She truly wants to make a difference in this world and rather than wanting a pat on her back like so many other publicity hungry 'philandropists' seem to do, she just quietly dedicates her time to people that are in need.
What an good soul. Talking to her has made my day, if not, the past year. If only more people would be so kind, generous and less self serving - the world would be a much better place.
I am so proud to call her a friend and look forward to working with her to help regional communicates open up conversations about things that matter. We have promised to stay in touch and I absolutely will because having her in my life makes for a better day.
Never change Sonya. x
P.S. Things we all can do: give time to charity, be kind to everyone, pack an extra cut lunch for the beggar on the street, think of ways that you can personally help make the world a better place or join with others on the same pursuit.

05 Feb 2015It is not always easy to be kind and help others after a tiring week at work, a bad day or a busy weekend, but what your friend does for those she does not even know is amazing. We should all do little things everyday for others, and stop being selfish. It is also after doing something nice for someone else - a word, some food, a smile - that I realize that it also make myself feel better in a way.
ReplyI know from now on I'll try to pay more attention to what happens around me, people like your friend are inspiring!
