How many times have you heard someone say "I am not technical"? Or that they don't use technology because they don't know how to? Non-technical entrepreneurs, or at least those who refuse to use technology and data within their businesses are doomed to failure and the past few years of business has given a clear insight into why this is the case.

For years, I kept my business strategy in my head. It was a reliable place to keep it, or at least I thought. My memory is fairly decent when it comes to things that matter and reaching my business goals – matters.

With our marketing plan, that was another story. Writing it down is what we do, and we know that it is the only way to achieve marketing goals, aligning the sales function with marketing tactics that derive results.

A new year - what a relief

As I woke up on January 1, 2021, at 4.59a.m. I could feel myself breathe a sigh of relief. Finally, it is a new day, in a new year, and everything that came before that moment no longer holds me or anyone else down.

In truth, I have no risk management solution in place. My glass is half full, I am the eternal optimist and there is this underlying belief that 'everything will be alright'.

So, when COVID hit, I thought it would pass. A few weeks of hysteria and then we would be back to normal. A small bump in the road.

When the going gets tough, the tough get going - or at least so they say.

It's been a difficult few months for businesses who are navigating a new way of doing business, or forced closure. To say that it has been tough is an understatement. Like many entrepreneurs, I have been feeling the pressure and at times it is unsurmountable.

As much as I would love to say that being an entrepreneur is smooth sailing, I know that I would not be telling the full story.

I’ve had some astronomical wins over the years, but in fairness, I have had just as many failures.
