My New Years Resolution
On Sunday night, I woke up in the middle of the night and got online and booked a flight to Melbourne. I was tired and partied out. After a week in Sydney, enjoying the harbour and catching up with my friends for breakfast, lunch and dinner - I was exhausted!
Not exactly how I would like to start the new year.
Booking the flight was one of those things that had to be done yet once I pushed the button, I realised that perhaps I should have given it more thought.
The next day, after saying goodbye, I boarded my flight to Melbourne. When I landed, I breathed a sigh of relief. It was exactly what I needed after a big year.
I picked up my car and drove straight away down to Portsea to stay with one of my good friends without telling a soul.
After my first good nights sleep in weeks, I woke up and realised that it was New Years Eve and there were things to consider. Should I attend a party or should I just stay in. In the end, I decided against a romantic night with someone I love, and decided on a quiet night in with a few friends so that I could take time out for myself and look ahead at the new year that I was about to enter. I don't know about you, but for some reason, I found that being in situation without any influence would help me start the new year in the best possible light. The hardest decision was sacrificing spending a night, with candles and conversation with the person I admire most in the world - but it had to be done.
We had a simple dinner overlooking the ocean and thought through our New Years Resolutions.
Here is what I came up with:
Theme: If nothing changes, nothing changes.
Resolutions:
- Be fitter: do exercise religiously 3 times a week
- Run a half marathon in Cambodia in December
- Release two books
- Expand into Canada and Europe
- Be kind to everyone and treat everyone like I would like to be treated, or how I would like my family to be treated
- Ensure that everything I do and the people I surround myself with are true to my values
- Love like there is no risk to be taken
- Be comfortable in my own skin
- Celebrate big wins
- Invest in the Marketing Eye team and their work environment
It's going to be a great year and there is so many exciting adventures to be had.
Some things to consider:
- Today is the first blank page of a 365 page book. Write a good one.
- Dance like there is no-one watching
- Take risks because they will make you feel alive one way or another
- Be happy - regardless
- Treat this year, like its the last year of your life
- Love your family and make sure that they know it
- Spend time with people who you love, respect and admire
- Believe in karma
- Kiss a stranger, hug someone who needs one, and smile at everyone that passes you by.
I truly believe that 2014 is going to be the best year of my life. There is nothing that I won't do to keep this dream alive, constantly reminding myself that every lesson I learn is needed to be the person I am and to experience a journey that is interesting, adventurous and above all - tells a story.
My love life is now at the forefront, and the single most important element of my life. Making sure I love passionately and give time where needed to nurture a relationship that is real, worthy and part of my next phase in life.
And lastly, being kind is not hard to do, but something that all people should be reminded of.
Bring on 2014.

01 Jan 2014Happy new year! I have similar resolutions, but as a marketing university student I don't have expanding to Europe and Canada and releasing two books on my list (not yet but in the future I will!). Also on my list is to get an internship or/and get accepted into a graduate program with an organisation, as I finish my degree at the end of this year! Marketing eye is an organisation that I have high interest of doing an internship with! I agree with you about how life is an adventure! I love thriller and crime novels and I love how this year is a mystery waiting to unravel itself. Also this year I'm going to take more risks, grasp opportunities and also study hard!
