SMS Marketing: An Invasion or extremely effective?
You either love it or you hate it! SMS Marketing has seen a large boom in the last couple of years due to the increased utilisation and strong attachment we now have with our digital hand bricks, also known as our phones. Wherever we enter our mobile number into, whether that’s buying a pair of shoes online and adding your phone number in to the contact information or being scraped from a data base and sent numerous marketing SMS messages. No mobile number is safe in this day and age.
And yes, I know, it sounds extreme. But it’s true! It’s incredible to think the amount of data companies, organisations and governments have of us in order to influence us to purchase, like and love a product or service. But the real question that we should all be thinking about is whether SMS marketing is more of an invasion of privacy or an extremely effective marketing tool?
Invasion of Privacy
Our phones are like our babies... well to some people they are. We are bombarded with an astronomical amount of advertisements, sponsorships and marketing from thousands upon thousands of businesses on digital and social media platforms such as Google, Facebook, Instagram and even our Emails. For some, our text message bank is our ‘happy place’, it's where we go to freely talk without having to fear of being scraped of data, being apart of a customised targeted marketing campaign and businesses annoying us to buy their products. It leaves me to believe that maybe SMS marketing is one step to far, maybe it is an invasion of one’s privacy. What do you think?
Extreme effectiveness
SMS marketing has grown to have an average of a 98% open rate compared to an average 20% email open rate. With over 5 billion people owning and using a mobile phone they have fast become the biggest platform for not only marketers though too businesses to intensely portray and express their messages. Large organisations such as Coca Cola have now incorporated SMS marketing into their overall marketing strategy, and it won’t be long until every business is too!
So, what do you think? Is it an extreme level of invasion or is it an incredibly effective tool for businesses?
If you’re looking to spice up your marketing strategy, you’re in the right place!
