I started my internship at Marketing Eye a year after I graduated from RMIT University, and yes, I graduated during the lockdown.

When I applied for Marketing Eye, I applied with no expectations on whether I will be accepted for the role or not. When I received the call back from Vedika and got accepted, I was thrilled to start experiencing what it’ll be like working in a field I’m passionate about.

I remember the first day so vividly.

I remember feeling really happy on the way here, thinking,

“Wow, Nate, you’re here now. Marketing Eye allows you to show the world what you’re made of. Let’s get it.”

I started my internship at Marketing Eye when I had just finished my first university semester. I aimed to find a part-time internship where I would be able to learn and enhance my skills in the professional world. I applied to Marketing Eye without expecting to be accepted for the role. However, when I received the confirmation call, I was ecstatic, as this was my first achievement in a new country. Furthermore, marketing has always been my field of interest, so a Marketing internship was exciting.

My Experience at Marketing Eye

As a recent graduate, accumulating professional work experience in my final year of university has been critical in shaping my career path. Undertaking an internship during the pandemic was difficult, to say the least, but I was so fortunate to have had this learning experience with Marketing Eye. The marketing internship provided me the opportunity to explore more about content marketing, which has been useful in helping me become the marketer I aspire to be!

Located on a bustling street in Hawksburn, this 12-week internship program allowed me to intern in a distinctly modern and vibrant terrace-style building. Despite being unable to work physically in the office in the early stages of the program, the team at Marketing Eye was supportive and was quick to respond to any questions I had while I interned online. When I had the chance to go into the office for the first time, I noticed that Marketing Eye’s culture was focused on friendliness and a strong work ethic, which inspired me to work equally as hard as them. Working alongside the marketing executives has not only helped me strengthen my resume but has also built confidence in my writing skills.

Marketing and the Millennial

As I look around the Sydney, Marketing Eye office something really stands out. I’m one of the oldest ones here, not only am I one of the oldest members of the team, I’m in a sea of Millennials. What’s a Millennial you ask? Well it’s a term coined to represent anyone in their early twenties born in the year 2000-2010 and yes, the office is full of them.

Marketing Eye has always accepted internships ever since we were first approached by an overseas University. The reason being that many Universities around the world require internships abroad and they struggle to find one's that they are able to get into, as it isn't always common place in Australia.

Our interns have been amazing. They work on client accounts predominantly depending on capabilities on market research, databases, strategies, inside sales platforms, content development, social media and idea generation.

The choice to do an internship or not is really up the to the individual in Australia. In Europe and most of the US, it is compulsory.

There have always been these war stories of how interns have had to do the lamest of tasks; dropping off drycleaning, cleaning the kitchen, filing for days on end. But it's not all war stories and I can assure you that our interns at Marketing Eye do not have to do that at all.

They're young having the time of their lives while studying their arses off, and as part of their University Degree or off their own bat, they have decided to do an internship. Luckily for me, it's at Marketing Eye.

First of all, they send off their resumes to hundreds of different companies requesting an internship. In Australia, they are largely not paid, so interns are volunteering their own time in reward for hands on experience.

I once said to an intern that when they finished their University Degree that they would be more employable due to their internship and ability to attract 50,000 to a blog, than those of who may have received a better score. Experience particularly in marketing counts for something.

So, I asked some of our interns, what an internship is really like. Here's what they had to say:

How to nail a marketing internship

Interning at Marketing Eye is no easy task, but is often rewarding and highly valuable in the competitive job market - many of our superstar marketing and graphic design interns have ended up securing paid work for us.

While we've heard horror stories of other agencies taking advantage of their interns by making them fetch coffees or run personal errands, Marketing Eye invests time in our interns and arms them with requisite knowledge that will help them stand out of the crowd.

Want to nail your own marketing internship, or feeling nervous about starting a new one? Check out our pointers below.
