Everybody has their SHIT!
"Everybody has their shit," said Doreen, a wonderful, successful woman I met for the first time tonight.
As a table of 5 women sharing their stories and updating everyone on their lives, one thing became apparent. Everybody has their shit.
Not the most enticing word in the English Dictionary, I agree, but nevertheless, its meaning in this context makes it appropriate.
I enjoyed the company of 5 fabulous women tonight. Smart, beautiful, successful, emotionally intelligent and value adding, women that can converse on every topic imaginable.
They depict the women that I had in mind when I wrote "what men can do to make their women more successful."

We often get bogged down on everything happening in life and sometimes we play the victim. Life isn't being as fair as it should be to us and all of these things keep going wrong. But why? Why isn't life perfect or at least not creating drama, heart ache and disappointment? Why?
"Everybody has their shit," said my new friend. And she is right.
No matter what we try and project to the world and convince others of, we still have our shit. Things that only we have to deal with. Things that rock the boat. That don't make our world's perfect. That challenge us beyond what some days, we can handle being challenged on.
Tonight was an incredible night. I sat enjoying a delightful meal with women who all own their own businesses, two of whom where married and the rest who were not.
The two that were married were blissfully happy, in a good space. But they are the first to concur that they have "their shit" to deal with.
Three of us who are single and getting up there in the age stakes. We have what everyone else would see as fortunate lives but yet we sit there thinking that our lives are not great, they could be better. They could be more perfect.
The glass changes from half empty to half full from moment to moment . But we are all human. We all struggle with the same issues. We all succeed in our own way. We stand out from a crowd, then sit back and wonder why. Our belly's have butterflies because we get excited at the thought of a new idea, yet we wonder why something doesn't go to plan.
Our brains work overtime. We wake at 2am in the morning. We feel empowered then deflated. Mostly we feel lucky to live the lives we have, to not have to worry about food or water or an unstable political environment. The next holiday, or business challenge is only what is in front of us, that is of course if you don't include wanting to be happily living with a man that rocks our world. Makes it better and makes us better. You know the type. The one that when we wake up in the morning and see asleep beside us, quietly snores and we think it is the most beautiful thing in the world to watch.
We are women... and we are entrepreneurs. We all have our shit - it's just how we deal with it!

26 Jun 2012As i watched the tennis last night i heard one of the commentators say that the problem for many young players is that they try to be perfect and this is one of the reasons they make many errors. They try hard to outplay themselves, whereas more experienced players know they cant hit perfect shots 100% of the time and dont feel down and out when they miss and remain focused of the task ahead.
ReplyThat being said, nothing is ever perfect. Accepting that you can be shit at times can make you a whole lot better.

11 Apr 2012Everybody has their shit, it's apart of life. No matter which path you take, there will always be obstacles (expected/unexpected) that you must overcome. Theses obstacles may bring you down but it's how you deal with it and your attitude that is most important. We need to remember that we can only move forward if we want to.

It's accepting those vices of others and more importantly of ourselves as well is what makes us shine. Admitting to and owning your shit is the best way to make others love that about you too.

04 Apr 2012Sometimes, the world can bring you down in the blink of an eye and your heart just sinks. The simple phrase "Glass half empty, or Glass half full", is again subjective and in the eyes of the beholder. It all depends on how we are feeling. Moods will alter perception, perception will dictate your attitude and as soon as you know it, you can be sending of very negative body gestures or verbal messages about how you feel without even realising we're doing it.
ReplySo how do we control this. Well, we can't really control the events that happen to us (unless you live in a bubble, in which case, you probably wouldn't be reading this now!) We control our thoughts, one, be remembering that we are in public or around other people and that our actions can affect others. We must be mindful of what we think, say, mirror and do.
Two, we do it to make ourselves better people.
As you point out in life, there is so much to be grateful for. We just need to keep remembering that we have all of that in our lives and that our actions do affect others.
Yes, everyone has their own S&^%, but it's up to us to make a difference and ensure that our negative attitude doesn't hurt other people in the process. It's all about maintaining a positive environment and great working relations, with your team and networks.

ReplyI couldn't have said it better myself. Spot on! It's true, everyone is fighting their own battle day in day out. It easy to lose focus and feel a bit deflated in life with everyone now stating the over used phrase by Charlie Sheen on social networks about 'winning' in life. One can be convinced they have been dealt the wrong cards when things are not going accordingly! Happiness is cyclical. Life is full of ups and down. The key is to not be in competition with everyone but to focus on yourself, be grateful and be humble
