What you should un-learn from Meghan Markle proclaiming to be a feminist
Women, you are good enough. In fact, you are more than that. You now have the power to be anyone you want to be, and the most important person you should want to be is you.
Watching women in high profile positions spruik their feminism ways, should not be the "lessons" you learn about feminism and Saturday's Royal Wedding was a clear reminder of that.

Weddings:
- Be proud of yourself and the people who make you who you are. If you are getting married, people won't 'like' you more because you invited people that you met for 2 minutes, just because they are famous or deemed important. In fact, it showcases how little you think of your own worth and the people around you. From all accounts, prime position for George Clooney and his wife, after only meeting a few times, over people you work with every day, shows that you want to be seen. Every feminist knows that a confident woman doesn't need to yell out to the crowd "look at me".
- Very few people in the world have 'no family'. Just because family members are different or come from backgrounds that are not the same as where you have been able to climb, doesn't mean they are not family. I wonder if Meghan Markle sat her entire family down and spoke to them about what her life was about to become and how she would like to see them included in it. Instead, they clearly felt rejected, and then took advantage of the pain and hurt they were going through, by being quite mean spirited. Any psychologist would tell you that sometimes your time and consideration can mean the world of difference.
- If you are a feminist, and you own your life, then you don't dress a certain way because the Royal Family dictates it, or wave a certain way for the same reason. You stay you. You are a woman and every part of you that is different from the woman sitting next to you deserves to be celebrated. You don't need to be a carbon copy of someone else or pretend. Isn't that for non-feminists?
- On the steps of the church, Meghan Markle asked if she could kiss Harry. He replied yes. Really? Should she have to ask? Is this what a feminist does? Ask the man if they are able to kiss them.
- Meghan Markle loves her 'black' heritage and so she should but since she has approval on photographs, why is she allowing her photos to make her whiter, take out her freckles and skin pigmentation. Shouldn't she be showing women around the world that these things are normal and to be celebrated.
- You don't change your religion or nationality for a man. Simple. Keep your religion and let them keep their's. Stay American and let him be British. He is no longer in direct line to the throne and the titles should mean nothing. Love should mean everything.
- Your ageing dog could have come over with you via a private jet. While you can't afford it, your husband can. Old dogs flying on a plane is no different to humans. Shame on you for leaving your dog behind. (Note: I am a dog lover and would never leave my dog)
I was disappointed by the small amount of time that I watched the Royal Wedding. Oprah's attendance in pole position topped it off. I wonder how many real friends didn't make the cut because they were not good enough, high profile enough, rich enough - or whatever other reason came to mind.
Meghan Markle is not an example of a feminist. Just a highly ambitious woman who happened to work not as the main star of a television series, but one of the actresses. I am sure she is nice in person, but definitely her wedding showed she was no role model.
I never thought I would be a fan of anyone in the Royal Family, but I have to say that Kate is a role model. Don't get mixed up in the new shiny toy girls...just saying.

05 Dec 2018What an incredible post! It opens my eyes and let me look at role models more critically. Women shouldn't ask for any permission. If you want to do something there is no need for asking a question first; Just do it!
