The power of positivity in the workplace
positivity
-
1.the practice of being or tendency to be positive or optimistic in attitude."pupils draw power from the positivity of their teachers"
-
2.the presence rather than absence of a certain substance, condition, or feature."the first biopsy specimen demonstrated positivity for cytokeratin"
I walk into the office today, and my dog races to the door and taps on it. She wants it open. Her tail is wagging and she is excited. I open the door, and she races through the office, the long way, to the Accountants office. Tail is still wagging. She is beyond excited. To her, this is home. Both Accountants, Tina and Wendy, give her a pat. They each have huge smiles on their faces. This happens every day that we are in any of our offices, the only difference is a different city and different people. They made her day by giving her pats, and she made their day by turning up.
Isn't that beautiful. Such a small thing, but it makes me smile. It's the best start to the day. It makes it impossible for anyone to not be happy. I guess that's why dogs are such a big part of modern offices today.
As each person arrives, they are greeted by "the dog", also known as Pippa Smith or if you are an avid Instagrammer, @thereal_pippasmith.
Next in is Kris, he has a huge smile on his face. He puts his stuff down and walks into my office with a huge smile on his face. He has a big day in front of him, but nevertheless, its exciting. His job is creative and fun, and he does work with some of the greatest people on the planet.
Amanda arrives shortly after. Her smile is the biggest I have ever seen. He smiles like this all day long, even when she is on deadline. I am always amazed by her energy and often think what makes her so happy all the time. One day I will ask, but I fear that the question is something one should never ask a person. Instead, we should appreciate the value they bring to the world.
Lewis arrives. He had dinner with me last night. We missed hanging out and he wanted to catch up on what's been going on. Mostly we talked about our dreams. He dressed up today. Making a good impression is something that he likes to do. Quite often I can see him frown at me when I walk into the office in a tracksuit. Not corporate attire.
Then they all start filing in. Lots of chatter. The day is about to start and they each have something to contribute. Mostly they all share the same vision and similar values, which is a blessing.
Life at Marketing Eye is like this. Every day. In fact, I have forgotten what it is like not to have positive, encouraging people full of energy around me.
I made a conscious decision on New Years Eve in 2017 that I would not waste a minute with negative people and would not bring them into my world. I am staying true to that.
So, what does positivity bring to the workplace? It brings a happy environment. It allows people to see things from different perspectives. It is what makes my day and I suspect theirs.

04 Sep 2018Positivity is truly a culture every workplace needs to revolve around. Bad days do come and often times we might find ourselves not quite feeling 10 out of 10 but not staying in the same rut with an environment with encouraging colleagues does make a world of difference to our day and to our work, and what better way than a furry friend to turn that frown upside down!

22 Jul 2018Positivity in the workplace makes all the difference! Negativity is a horribly contagious thing to bring to a collaborative space, and it can really affect all aspects of work. A simply smile or inquiry about one's day can turn their morning around and give them motivation to do great work. I love being surrounded by positive people who cheer on each other's accomplishments and supports others in times of need. Makes walking into work something to look forward to!

19 Jul 2018Working in a positive environment is the best motivation for finishing those heavy tasks. I love being in an environment that is full of laughter and positive chatting, rather than stay in a quiet and boring environment. It’s lucky to have Pippa and all cheerful colleagues working together!
